Telehealth in WA, OR, MO, & FL — Common Questions

How does Telehealth work across state lines? I am fully licensed to provide clinical services to any adult physically located in Oregon, Washington, or Missouri, and I am a registered out-of-state telehealth provider for residents of Florida. We meet via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video link.

Can I switch between in-person and telehealth? For clients in the Camas, Vancouver, and Portland metro areas, we have the flexibility to meet virtually or in-person. My licensure allows for a seamless transition between the two, providing consistent care regardless of your schedule or travel needs."

Do I need a special computer or software? We utilize SimplePractice, a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform designed for private clinical sessions. If you are using a laptop or desktop, no download is required—you simply click the link in your appointment reminder. If you prefer using a tablet or mobile device, you will just need to download the "Telehealth by SimplePractice" app once for a stable, encrypted connection.

Is remote EMDR as effective as in-person therapy? Research consistently shows that EMDR and somatic therapies are just as effective via telehealth. Many clients find they can actually "go deeper" into the work because they are processing in the environment where they already feel most grounded and safe.

Do I need special equipment for remote EMDR? No equipment is required to begin. I may utilize Bilateralstimulation.io, a specialized, HIPAA-secure platform that allows me to manage a digital light bar on your screen or deliver high-fidelity bilateral audio directly through your browser.

For clients who prefer a tactile experience, there are several streamlined options:

  • Remote Tactile Control: If you own a set of compatible wireless tappers (such as Waverly), I can sync with them remotely from my dashboard to manage your processing in real-time.

  • Visual & Auditory: Most clients find the on-screen visual tracking and bilateral audio highly effective without any extra hardware.

  • In-Office Visits: For those in the Camas/Portland area, I provide all necessary tactile equipment during our in-person sessions.

What if my internet connection is interrupted? Your safety and containment are my highest priorities. We establish a "connection protocol" in our first session so that if the technology glitters, we have a pre-set plan to reconnect immediately via phone.

How should I prepare my space for a session? I recommend a quiet, private room where you won't be interrupted. Using headphones is highly encouraged; it ensures total privacy and provides the highest quality for bilateral audio processing during our work.

Can I do somatic therapy virtually? Yes. Somatic work is about internal awareness. We work together to notice body sensations and patterns, using the comfort of your own home as a resource for grounding and stabilization.
